Politicians are BEMRs for Their Implementation of Veteran's Day

In Australia and other members of the Empire, Remembrance Day is not a Federal holiday. Instead, at 11:00, the entire country stops for a minute to remember.

Melbourne, VIC, Australia, November 11, 1999. I walked down the street on a personal errand. The bells peeled. I hadn't heard the bells peel before. People stopped. Cars stopped. Trams stopped. The street transformed from vibrant commerce to solemn, quiet peacefulness. I thought about their Veterans, our Veterans, the Veterans I read about, and the Veterans I personally know or knew. A minute later, the bells peeled. The street returned to vibrancy. I continued to think about the Vets. I thought about the Vets for the rest of the day and into the night.

Compare Empire Remembrance Day to the USA where a Federal holiday means a day off and no appreciable thoughts of our Veterans aside from the intermittent parades and poorly attended graveyard speeches.

Politicians are BEMRs for Their Implementation of Veteran's Day.
